MyHBG “Create Your Community” Grant

The MyHBG Create Your Community Grant Program (MyHBG Program) provides funding for small‑scale, low‑cost, community-driven projects that enhance downtown public spaces, improve safety, and/or strengthen neighborhood identity of downtown Harrisburg. The program empowers residents, nonprofits, and local businesses to test creative ideas that make downtown streets and public spaces more vibrant, inclusive, people-centered, and community-oriented. 

Rooted in the concept of “tactical urbanism”, the goal of this program is to strengthen the bond between community members and the downtown and make downtown Harrisburg a vibrant place all are proud to call “MyHBG.”

Projects can be located anywhere in the city, but applicants are encouraged to consider projects located downtown. Priority may be given to projects that are located downtown or strengthen the connection between a community to downtown.

Grant Amounts

  • Standard grants will range between $500 to $2,500.
  • Grants exceeding $2,500 may be awarded if the applicant demonstrates significant project impact and deliverability.

This is a reimbursement-based grant. Applicants should be prepared to fund their project upfront and be reimbursed for documented expenses incurred and paid for.

Project Timing and Duration

  • Project completion is expected within 3 months of award. Extensions may be provided upon request depending on scope of project or extenuating circumstance, such as weather, which impacts project implementation. 
  • Installations can be designed for as little as one day (e.g., a pop-up) to up to 18 months or longer (e.g., murals).
